Conversion Ideas for a Grey Knight Grandmaster

Hey everyone, Xethik here just wanting to throw in a quick "filler" post until I can get something on the large scale up. I'm going to quickly go by some conversion ideas and model alternatives I've either seen or thought of for a Grey Knight Grandmaster/Brother Captain.
While I love Stern's model, I would like to personally have a bit of a more unique HQ so converting or using a different model would be nice. I've come up with a list of some options, some of which would require very little conversion work and other would require a complete re-build of the model. Please note that any images I link in this post I have no rights to nor did I paint.

So, let's start off with my personal favorite. When I first started playing 40k, I bumped into this article on the Games Workshop site.

I really liked the chestpiece featured on that Belial conversion, and I began trying to think of ways I could use the Calgar myself. I, like many others have as I soon found out, made in my mind a plan to convert Marneus Calgar into a Grey Knight Grandmaster.

To compliment this conversion, I think the Terminator Librarian Force Weapon army would work perfectly, and a Grey Knight Terminator Psycannon arm for the left arm. The Librarian has a nice book, which fits Grey Knight iconography and leads into a staff which I could converted into a Nemesis Force Weapon pretty easily. A helmet that looks Grey Knight-like shouldn't be too hard to find, and I've seen people use the Forge World Grey Knight Land Raider Commander to great effect. Throwing on some greenstuff or Grey Knight Terminator heraldry shields would be a nice touch to cover up the Ultramarine "omegas".

I've been searching on and off eBay for a cheap Marneus Calgar without his Honor Guard but I can rarely find them going for less than $25 after shipping, which is a bit much for me. But I'm sure many of you are a bit more brave and will be able to get this conversion going much easier.

Next up is a model I've seen from Scibor, known as the Templar SciFi Knight.

While there are a couple things that I don't like about this model for a Grey Knight, such as the collar with the skeleton on it, it does have a very nice Crusader vibe to it that I think would work well. I'm not sure if it would be easy enough to remove the head, but I assume it would be. No offense to Scibor, I just like helmets. You may be able to add some different arms on it, too, but I'm not sure how many pieces this guy comes in. Anyone know?

Before I go onto my last conversion I want to mention some bits I found when browsing for ideas.

I think these legs would be great for both Dark Angel Deathwing and Grey Knight Terminator conversion. It isn't much, but the robed legs really fits some themes you see in both of these armies (more so Dark Angels). I could also see Black Templars using them...
Some Google-fu revealed a guy using these legs.
Okidus from okidus.blogspot.com/ uses these in a post he did not too long ago, found here. They legs do look a bit taller than normal, but personally I like that..

Anyway, it's about time to finish up this post with a very odd conversion base...

Now, I've never played Warmachines nor have I ever seen this model in person, but I think a conversion may be possible. Yes, it would be very difficult, but I think it would be very cool. It doesn't have much of a 40k feel, but I know some of you really talented guys out there could make something beautiful.

So that pretty much wraps up this post. I hope this post helps anyone out there looking to make a very cool HQ for their Grey Knights.

And remember, only two months now until the new codex! Perhaps we'll see a new model then, so you may want to wait a bit before you go out and purchase some new models and green stuff.

Hopefully I'll get back with some nice Grey Knight information, but the rumor mills seemed to die just as the announcement went out.

I've not seen that Marneus Calgar conversion. I didn't realize the conversion potential that mini has! That's the one I'd go for if I were doing anything with my Grey Knights...

The Calgar conversion never looked right with me: too 'normal' of a head, the angle of his head is off, and not on the right level with his arms.

The Inner Geek: Yeah, it's possible that I've only seen it some many times due to Google-ing everything ever about Grey Knights and just bumping into it multiple times. It is a very nice idea, as the model is great if you ignore the fact he is an Ultramarine.

bhsman: The head on that conversion does look a bit odd from some angles and it doesn't really hold a very special kind of feeling to it, that is true. And the arms do appear a bit too high and small compared to the body, seeing how Marneus Calgar is massive compared to most models, but I don't think it is that bad.
